Apple had their earning call and it went pretty much as expected but there was an interesting little nugget of news about the direction of their future product line. With devices like the ASUS Transformer Prime having success in the market and the Lenovo Yoga flipping into a tablet, hybrid designs it is an obvious question to ask Apple.
It appears that Apple will not be tackling the hybrid tablet/notebook space according to Tim Cook:
“Anything can be forced to converge but the problem is the products are about tradeoffs. . . You begin to make trade-offs to the point where what you have left at the end of the day doesn’t please anyone.” He added, “You can converge a toaster and a refrigerator, but those things are probably not going to be pleasing to the user.”
However, the guys at GeekWire.com pointed out that Steve Jobs also referred to home appliances when asked about adding video to the iPod: ”You know, our next big step is we want it to make toast, I want to brown my bagels when I’m listening to my music. And we’re toying with refrigeration, too.”
