Motorola XT560 Makes An Entrance: Android On budget

Looking for a tiny Android smartphone to suit your needs? Meet the Motorola XT560, a lower handset running Google’s mobile OS that seems to borrow from the design of the Motorola Photon 4G model on Sprint. This device should hit Europe and the rest of the world soon.

Moto XT560 was confirmed by the FCC last week and the image here was sent to androidgreed by a tipster. The source couldn’t say where he got the image, so there’s no way to tell if this is a genuine shot or not. It may end up being an entirely different phone, still a smaller one with lower end specs. The Motorola XT560 comes with a HVGA display with unknown diagonal size, HSDPA 850/1900 MHz, WiFi and Bluetooth. At the back there’s a 3 megapixel camera at the back, also a front facing camera present here, a microSD card slot and the brain of the new Moto newcomer is a 800 MHz CPU.

The processor is made by Qualcomm and it helps run Android 2.3 Gingerbread, probably with some minor customizations. I can’t help but think that this handset is somewhat a rival for an Xperia Mini unit, so maybe it also has some customization that fits Android 2.3 to the smaller screen like the 4 screen corner icons on the Xperia Minis…

Update: HTC Is Moving Away From QWERTY Keyboard Phones

Today all mobile fans demand high-end specs, creative and elegant designs, super-thin handsets, and all in one packages. It’s not difficult to guess that all these features can’t come together at once, one of them has to be left out. According to the latest tendency QWERTY keyboards are the ones under the risk, gradually becoming extinct in mobile market.

The HTC event in Seattle has brought some surprises, which might be decisive in defining HTC’s future consumers. The company’s creative director Claudia Zellweger has announced that HTC is gradually moving away from QWERTY keyboards. The manufacturer will focus more on touchscreens as they are what the market demands now.

Besides this, the software keyboards will allow manufacturers to play around with the designs and provide the extra-thinness so desired today. Another advantage of software keyboards is the comparably lower price of the handsets, as less part will be produced.

Although the technology is developing towards software keyboards recently, there are still a lot of mobile users who prefer the hardware. And the last thing HTC would want now is to lose the big number of such consumers. Surely, the company will not put an end to hardware keyboards in a day, it will most probably keep releasing QWERTY keyboard phones on the side but the challenge will have to come up at some point.

HTC EVO Design 4G Receiving OTA Security Update

The hot spot for Sprint’s collection of smartphones is, of course, the HTC EVO 4G LTE. But who said we can’t get happy for older models? In fact, we must get much happier when the update comes to an older product. This time the HTC EVO Design 4G is being refreshed.

The owners of this device have been waiting for some juicy news, for example, an Ice Cream Sandwich update. Unfortunately, the pack doesn’t include an ICS. Meanwhile, something is better than nothing, right? And this something is a set of security fixes, which is not less important for your phone.

The update (2.12.651.8) was rolled out on April 13, meaning you can now get it manually. If you prefer to wait for the notification, be ready to get it starting April 17. It will also be pushed out in stages, so don’t get confused if the update list displays nothing new to you.

And finally, take this as a good sign. The update means HTC has not forgotten about its older products and may send better gifts next time, which might be just the thing you’ve been craving for, the almighty Ice Cream Sandwich.

Hands On: HTC Golf Brings Ice Cream Sandwich To Entry-Level Smartphone Market

Another HTC smartphone has been leaked in a photo called official press image by the guys over atPocketNow. It’s the earlier-rumored HTC Golf — a low-end smartphone with decent features coming to fulfill the list of HTC One series smartphones.

The HTC Golf will be renamed to the HTC Wildfire C but it resembles the One X more than the Wildfire/Wildfire S. Anyway, the renaming will be conditioned by the fact the original Wildfire and its successor were very popular among those who couldn’t afford high-end devices. As the next low-end smartphone of the manufacturer, the Golf will have the same mission.

In this sense, we mustn’t expect much from the device though in terms of software users will hardly pick any holes. The HTC Golf is packed with a 1GHz single-core processor, which looks quite unacceptable considering the dual-core and the quad-core chips of the other One series handsets. Its camera sports 5MP lens, a photo taken by it was the first gleam of the existence of the Golf.

Announcement: Boeing To Launch Its Own Secure Android Smartphone

Aerospace giant Boeing is determined to set foot in mobile phone business. The company's Defense, Space and Security (BDS) unit is planning to introduce a new Android-powered secure phone by end of the year.

According to the vice president of the company's secure infrastructure group, Brian Palma, the development of “The Boeing Phone” is in the final stages and it will soon be released in the market. In an interview with press, Palma told that the competitors ask a price of $15,000 to $20,000 for a similar secure, encrypted devices. The company aims to penetrate the market by offering a lower price to the consumers.

He believes there is a considerable room in the defense and intelligence marketplace. Palma stated that Boeing chose to enter in this market following the changes in the technology usage attitudes of people, primarily. In the past, superior computers and technologies were meant for office work but in today's world consumer products have surpassed the office IT. In response to the situation, Boeing Co decided to introduce a secure phone which provides safe communication of information while allowing usability of consumers applications.

Pros And Cons Of HTC Titan II for AT&T

Is It Your Type?

HTC updates last year's Titan with a fresh design, LTE, and other under-the-hood goodies. With the latest version of Windows Phone in tow, the Titan II is a big phone that should be big on performance.

Body

The Titan II isn't all that much different from the Titan, though it definitely has its own character. The basics are the same: it's big, heavy, and one serious-looking smartphone. Where the original Titan stuck with the design themes used by HTC throughout 2010 and 2011, the Titan II changes up the appearance just enough so that it blends in better with HTC's newer "One" series of devices.

It uses gray, metallic-colored materials with black glass and a few silver accents thrown in for good measure. The result is a straight-laced, conservative appearance that would be at home in the boardroom. Returning a bit to HTC tradition, the Titan II (T2) has a very slight chin at the bottom. It's not as pronounced as the HTC One V's chin, but it's there all the same.

Given the size of the T2, it's a tough phone to wrap your hand fully around. There's a large bulge on the back surface, encompassing the top one-third of the phone. This is where the camera module and speaker for the speakerphone are located. It adds girth to an already-big device. The materials have a decent feel to them, and a soft-touch finish of sorts. The finish gives the T2 a bit of grip, but not enough that you can't easily slide the T2 into your pocket.

The T2's display is surrounded by a lot more bezel than I care to see on any device. The earpiece is a thin slit that it squished between the bezel and the top edge of the phone. The three Windows Phone control buttons are capacitive and built into the display's glass panel. Oddly, pressing directly on the arrow of the back key didn't send the T2 back a screen. Instead, the sensitive spot was a few millimeters above the arrow. Perhaps the arrow wasn't painted in the right spot?

The microUSB port is on the left edge of the T2. There's no hatch or cover for it, so it’s always easy to get to. The volume toggle and dedicated camera button are both on the right edge. The volume toggle is a thin sliver, but thanks to its texture and shape it stands out nicely and is easy to find. I wish travel and feedback were better. For whatever reason, HTC has trouble designing a great volume toggle. The dedicated camera button has the same texture and design idea behind it, so it, too, is a cinch to find with your thumb. It’s a two-stage button, and has excellent travel and feedback.

Menus

The T2, like the Nokia Lumia 900, runs the latest version of Windows Phone 7.5. On the surface, it doesn't behave any differently than Windows Phone 7.0 or 7.1. As far as modern smartphones go, Windows Phone is about as simple as it gets with respect to the user interface and it offers most of the coveted features.

The lock screen offers up notifications for items such as missed calls or messages. They will appear along the bottom of the screen. Slide the screen up to unlock it. As I've noted in other reviews of WP7 devices, the notifications are limited to providing an unread count, but don't offer previews of text messages or missed calls. The only lock screen shortcut available is to the camera, which you can reach by long-pressing the camera button.

There is but one home screen panel, though it is infinitely long. Home screen elements are arranged in vertical columns made of squares and rectangles. There are no widgets, but some of the squares/rectangles -- or Live Tiles in Microsoft parlance -- have live, updating information, such as the weather report. You can arrange these tiles however you wish, and add or delete them. The one neat thing about them is you can pin really specific things to the home screen, such as a particular email folder, or pictures posted by Aunt Tilly.

Summer is almost here and many of you will be heading to the beach or perhaps lounge by the pool. While on the beach you need tunes man and the Beach Sounds Speaker will provide just that. You might not like it because of its retro and toy-like design but the Beach Sounds Speaker comes with a housing which will provide a safe haven for your iPhone, iPhone, MP3 player or any smartphone for that matter.

The Beach Sounds Speaker was designed to be water resistant and it will also prevent sand from getting into your expensive device. The speaker box comes equipped with a few dials, one for the volume of the speaker, one for the bass and another than enables the user to tune into their favorite radio station while on the beach, or by the pool without the fear of sand or water getting into their electronics.

The Beach Sounds Speaker requires the use of four AA batteries for power and it is a cheap alternative to the other portable speaker systems available on the market plus it also serves as a protective housing for only $36. By the looks of the device, it doesn’t seem to be durable but to protect your smartphone from getting water splashes, 36 box is a good investment, get yours atPerpetual Kid.

We know the next big thing from RIM will be Blackberry 10 OS and its Blackberry 10 devices but we have no idea what they will be like, all we know that these devices will rock so powerful processors ranging from 1GHz and up. With the lacking of imagery from RIM, designers and fans-alike has been using their imagination to develop their versions of the upcoming line of Blackberry 10 devices and the Blackberry TK Victory concept smartphone have really caught the eyes of the guys at RIM.

DigitalHomeBoy is the name of the designer that came up with the Blackberry 10 concept dubbed the Blackberry TK Victory that have many fans of the brand talking up a storm. As pictured above, the TK Victory is reminiscent of the Blackberry Bold 9900, except a lot thinner and features a slightly larger screen. I’m pretty sure if RIM takes this design to its production line, me amongst many blackberry fans will be getting one of these.

T-Mobile’s HTC One S May Launch On April 25th

Recent HTC phones have been pretty remarkable regarding the noise they make around themselves. The HTC One S is one of the handsets with the mentioned peculiarity. It’s the second most expected phone in the HTC One line (coming after the HTC One X).

The phone has had a round-the-world tour, becoming popular in Europe and should be offered to the Chinese users by a too-down-there price of $200. The time has finally come for the US market as well. The phone is T-mobile bound and will be available starting from April 25. The big event will take place on a Wednesday, so prepare your week for a slight move-upwards right before the weekend.

If you compare the One S and the One X, obviously the latter will satisfy your curiosity and expectations of super-cool phone. But you will pay more as well. Meanwhile, if you’re not one of those crazy fans looking forward to the HTC One X, then be prepared to adopt your own HTC One S and maybe even a new carrier.

Watch Out! New Android Rooting Malware LeNa Found

The recent update of a known malicious software calledLeNa(Legacy Native) no longer needs user interaction in order to take over the phone of its victim. The malware uses theGingerBreak exploitto gain root permissions on a device, rather than relying on already rooted by the user phones.

This new capabilities of LeNa were unveiled by Lookout, a company that protects users against malware. After rooting the device LeNa conducts various harmful activity like installing additional software and pushing URLs in the browser, specifically "com.the9.gamechannel," which is a Chinese-language alternative market that publishes Android games.

The very way that LeNa enters the Android phone is through the alternative Android markets, as Google Play (former Android Market) is monitored by Google and it is unlikely to transmit an app disguising the LeNa. On its part LeNa was spotted masquerading as a legitimate app, and even as a fully functional copy of the recently released Angry Birds Space game.

LeNa attacks hit users of devices not patched against this treat with Android versions prior to 2.3.4 that do not otherwise have a back-ported patch. The best strategy for preventing a LeNa attack is to download apps from reputable app stores and consider using services or apps that scan apps for malicious activity.

There are numerous Android malware reports, such as thoseby Kasperskyor Symantec.

Users should also check the permissions an app requests to make sure they match with the functionality of the app. Monitoring unusual behaviors on devices, such as strange charges on the bill, unusual SMS or network activity and applications that launch when the device is locked may review that a device has been infected.

Funny how a handset has yet to be released yet the industry is already pegging it as the handset to take down. According to Korean paper DDaily‘s sources LG wasn’t satisfied with their offering of average handsets at MWC and is now preparing the 4.7″ D1L to take down the Samsung Galaxy SIII. The latest rumor is that the SIII will be appearing in May, and that is exactly when LG plans to unleash their super phone competitor running a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 offering a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels.

Above you’ll see a blurry photo of a roadmap that outlines the D1L as their high premium handset, it will of course be running Android 4.0. If you’re wondering how true this rumor might be an anonymous LG employee has been cited confirming the company is in fact “developing a phone with a project name D1L,”.

This robotic stand is on Kickstarter trying to raise the funds to come to the real world. The project was looking to raise $100,000 and Kickstarter and has so far raised $400,000.

Galileo is controlled by an app and has infinite sphere rotation capability to put the iPhone in almost any orientation. It can rotate at 200° per second. The stand is recommended for things like video calls, remote learning, cinematography, and more. Apple is also looking at wireless power according to a new patent application.

I don’t see why the same tech wouldn’t work a home either.

LG Plans To Release Smartphone That Can Think

LG isn’t exactly the first name that comes to mind when you think about top notch smartphones, although truth be told they had the most new products at MWC 2012 and they announced them a week ahead of the event. They have a quad core device ready, a 3D one, LTE models and the L series units with an original design. Now they want to make “a thinking smartphone”.

Kwon Bong-suk, managing director of LG Mobile Communications has detailed the company’s future plans, that include that thinking device. He also said that we don’t always need Apple to innovate, since other companies such as LG can find the “universal value” that consumers want in a phone. As far as that intelligent device goes, one example is setting the handset up to wake you up at 6.00 am and instead it will sense the high traffic and wake you up at 5.30 AM. This is a mere example of what a thinking phone can do.

It’s very likely that this will be an Android phone and maybe one that learns your behavior patterns and acts accordingly. Kwon Bong-suk also said that LG wants to release a $100 smartphone, but it’s not willing to sacrifice the quality of the user experience too much… As far as that thinking handset goes, LG is merely preparing to research it, so we have a long way to till it hits the stores.
